 Leaves: Crowded, opposite in two planes, concave, 2-7 mm long.
 Flowers: Pinkish purple, in short clusters along the branches.
 Flowering Time: Spring and summer.
 Fruit: Woody, in tight cylindrical clusters around stems. 
Habitat/distribution: Widespread and abundant in damp soil.
Where to See: Coastal heaths on the  east coast.
Other notes: Good garden plant, frost-hardy, preferring sunny areas with moist soil. Propagated from seed.
